TAT adventure caravan trip
PHUKET, PHANG NGA: Buckle up your seat belts and get ready for the journey of a lifetime, as Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is organizing an 80-kilometer adventure caravan trip from Tai Muang Beach National Park in Phang Nga, through Phang Nga and on to Phuket to promote eco-tourism.
The caravan will comprise a procession of four-wheeled vehicles driving through Phang Nga and a number Khao Lak’s national parks from 8 am on September 29.
All participants will have the opportunity to take part in a number of activities along the way, including tours through beach forests, bamboo rafting along Klong Lamroo and the planting of some 800 trees at Tai Muang Beach National Park.
A pit stop at Khaolak Paradise Resort is scheduled for the night, after which, caravaners will resume their voyage on September 30 and travel through Takuapa and other parts of Phang Nga province before ending their trip at the Welcome Gate in Phuket.
Participants will have the chance to visit some of Thailand’s revered natural treasures, taking in opportunities to swim and relax at a number of beaches beach, as well as dine at restaurants inside the various national parks.
The caravan crew will be required to keep the speed of the procession below 90kmh to conserve energy. Registration is 2,000 baht per vehicle, with no more than three persons allowed per team. This fee includes all meals and one night’s hotel accommodation.
Registration forms and fees must be submitted to the TAT office on Thalang Rd, Phuket City, by September 25.

Morning blaze ravages Patong shophouses

Ten vendors’ shops were destroyed when a fire broke out along the Patong beach road in the early hours of Monday morning.
PATONG: A shophouse fire along the beach road in Patong gutted 10 small vendors’ shops before dawn on Monday. It was the third such blaze in the past 15 months. No injuries were reported.
Israeli man drowns as Phi Phi dive boat capsizes
PHI PHI ISLANDS: An Israeli tourist died this morning when a boat sank off Maya Bay after becoming overwhelmed by stormy conditions.
The boat was returning to Koh Phi Phi Don from a diving trip, During the journey back to Ton Sai Bay, a heavy storm set in and the boat was bombarded with large waves and began taking on water. About 11 am the boat capsized, forcing all 55 passengers and four crew members into the sea.
ATM card scanners found in Patong
PATONG: Police are warning credit card and bank card holders to exercise caution when using ATMs and other “swipe” machines in Patong after an ATM on Soi Bangla was found fitted with devices capable of recording card data and pin numbers.
